VIDEO SURVEILLANCE > Quad/Multiplexer

 

When more than one camera should be displayed on a single monitor it's necessary to use external devices to manage video inputs. They are of 3 types:
  • VIDEO SWITCHERS take several hard-wired video inputs and have a keyboard which enables you to select which camera to view on screen, or shows them all in rotation.
  • QUAD SPLITTERS take up to 4 hard-wired video inputs. As well as acting as a video switcher, a quad is used to split the TV or monitor screen into 4 quadrants and view images from 4 cameras simultaneously. The image containing the 4 camera views can also be recorded.
  • MULTIPLEXERS perform all the functions of quads and switchers and also enable you to record images from all the cameras simultaneously using a time-lapse cassette video recorder.

This color quad can split connected monitor into four sectors displaying up to 4 cameras simultaneously.

Applications

Multiplexers connect to a TV or monitor, and like a quad, enable you to view images from up to 4 cameras at the same time, dividing the screen into 4 quadrants. The multiplexer also functions as a switcher, offering timed rotation of the cameras or the option of viewing one single camera full screen.
The key function of the multiplexer is when connected to a time-lapse video recorder with cassettes. The multiplexer transmits one frame from each camera in rapid succession and then in playback mode selects all the frames from one camera and shows them as a single recording.
During playback you can select images from each camera using the keyboard or view them all simultaneously, like a quad. Although only one video recorder is used, you will be able to record images from all cameras, as if you had 4 video recorders, each one linked to a camera.
