VIDEO SURVEILLANCE > Video protections
CCTV cameras are very sensitive to electrical noises.
Voltage surges are very dangerous for CCTV systems. Electrical machine tools, short-circuits, or nearby lightning strikes may create high voltage surges that can seriously damage cameras and other video equipments in a matter of instants.
When occasional surges occur in a CCTV system, the video signals from one or more cameras suddenly disappears. This happens out of the blue, without any previous sign of abnormal service.
Ground loops are another potential trouble source, mainly in large CCTV systems. Low currents, due to different ground potentials, may flow along the shield of the coaxial cable, creating unwanted video effects.
NSH video protection devices are specifically designed for protecting video inputs of CCTV equipments. They can be used on coaxial cable or twisted pairs, if video balun are used.
