Operating outside the infrared range

Operate devices through walls and cabinet doors
Your remote control only has a limited range for operating your audio and video equipment.
You can extend this range with Marmitek’s ready-to-use infrared solutions and can also combine this with your current remote control.
  • You have placed your A/V equipment in a closed cabinet but would like to continue to operate it using your remote control.
  • You would like to listen to another radio channel or the next track on your CD but you are not in the immediate vicinity of your radio.
  • You would like to be able to operate the set-top box or satellite tuner in the lounge, from your bedroom, using your remote control.
  • You would like to be able to use your remote control to browse through the eighties/nineties music on your DVD/CD changer or iPod docking station while sitting on your patio.
  • You select another radio station while cooking without having to leave your saucepans unsupervised in the kitchen.
  • You think you can hear the phone ringing and need to turn down the volume of the television or stereo to check without having to open the cabinet doors.
These so-called infrared extenders are suitable for every brand of DVD player, HDD recorder, satellite receiver, decoder, etc and are easy to install and use.
Infrared extenders can be roughly divided into the following categories:

Wireless solutions
These can be used to operate your A/V equipment from another room (up to 25 metres away). You can operate any A/V devices that are visible to the IR transmitter. The wireless technology used means that you do not need to drill holes or lay extra cables.

Wired solutions
These can be used if you simply want to operate A/V equipment that is located in a closed cabinet. You place the infrared receiver on, under or at the side of your cabinet or A/V unit and connect the A/V devices to be operated using IR LEDs via a thin cable that passes into the cabinet at the back. In addition, Marmitek also provides solutions for bridging distances of up to 300 metres (professional built-in solutions).

How does the IR Control 8™ works?

The IR Control Pro System™ is a modular infrared extension system and the components required are available individually. As a result, this system can be used universally and is suitable for just about any situation.

The IR System Module 200™ is the main component of the IR Control Pro System™. With it you can extend the IR (infrared) signals of remote controls. The IR Control Pro System™ makes it possible to control A/V devices while these are in a closed cupboard or when your A/V equipment is out of sight.

HOW IT WORKS

Locate your A/V equipment in a closed cupboard, TV cabinet or even in another room. The IR receiver must be installed in view of your own remote control. Stick the IR LEDs onto the front panel of your A/V equipment and place the IR main module out of sight. Point the remote control at the IR receiver in order to send the appropriate command to the IR LEDs (via the IR main module). These will then immediately pass this onto the A/V equipment.

IR Control Pro System

The IR Control Pro System™ is made up of three main components:

  • IR Receiver (1)
    The IR Receiver receives infrared commands from your remote control and sends these onto the IR System Module.
  • IR System Module (2)
    The IR System Module receives infrared commands from the IR Receiver, processes them and sends them onto all connected IR Extender Cables.
  • IR Extender Cable with LEDs (3) or an IR Blaster.
    The IR Extender Cable receives the infrared commands from the IR System Module and converts these into infrared signals via the IR LEDs or IR Blasters. The IR LEDs have a limited range and must, therefore, be stuck very precisely to the IR window on the A/V device to be operated. An IR Blaster emits a lot more infrared light (up to a distance of two metres) and can, therefore, operate numerous devices. As a result, the Blaster does not have to be located as precisely as the LEDs.

What you do in there, what equipment you have and how much importance you place on the quality, design and the options you have in your TV corner? A TV corner is actually a very disrespectful term when we see the lengths to which some people go to perfect their multi-media, super-modern, expensive audio/visual world.
Research
Among other things, our research has shown that 33 % of respondents have A/V equipment that they would rather place out of sight as a result of design/aesthetic considerations (73 %), dust (15 %) and burglars (8 %). But, there you have it…the fact that these people want to operate their devices from the sofa often stops them in their tracks.

This is an infrared repeater/extender. You can use it to operate up to 6 A/V devices in a closed cabinet with the original remote controls!

So how does it work?
You place the white box in your cabinet; the largest black block is placed under the edge of your A/V cabinet (or next to or under the TV. It doesn’t matter where, as long as you can point your remote control towards it.) The 6 IR LEDs are then stuck to your A/V devices. Do you have fewer than 6 A/V devices? No problem! You don’t have to use them all.
Quality
At Marmitek, product improvement is an ongoing process. The Invisible Control 6 is thus suitable for the new IR code formats (such as RC-MM) that are used in many new HD devices and digital TV decoders (including f.e. BT Vision, Freesat, Freeview, Sky TV and Virgin). Moreover, it also incorporates the latest technology in relation to IR filtering, for use in the vicinity of TVs (Plasma, LCD and LED), indirect sunlight and energy-efficient light bulbs. Applications

The IR Eye can, in combination with an infrared extender, extend the IR signal of your remote control. With an infrared extender, you can control your A/V equipment that is placed in a closed cupboard, out of sight or in another room. The IR Eye is a universal IR LED (emitter) for infrared extenders and video senders by Marmitek®, Xantech® and many others and for Microsoft® Media Center.

The infrared LEDs have a self-adhesive tape on the back. Use this to stick them onto the IR sensor of your A/V equipment. This should be done precisely. Test the position of the IR LEDs first.
